Lipofilling
Fat transfer surgery is a procedure where fat is gently removed from one area of the body - usually the flanks, outer thighs or buttocks - and re-injected into another to restore volume or improve contour. The fat is carefully processed and placed using small incisions to achieve a natural result. This is often performed as a day case under general anaesthetic, with dissolvable stitches and minimal scarring. It’s important to be in good health and at a stable weight before proceeding, and more than one session may be needed to reach the desired outcome. Compression garments are usually recommended afterwards to support your recovery and enhance results.

The surgery itself involves small cuts being made in the area we are concentrating on. Local anaesthetic solution is used to reduce pain and bruising, and this is introduced once you are asleep. The required fat is removed and the area is contoured. The fat is prepared and re-inserted. The skin is then stitched and dressings will be applied. The procedure takes around 2 hours depending on the size and location of the area we are operating on. After surgery, you should start wearing a binder or supportive underwear to provide gentle compression which helps with pain, reduces swelling and fluid collections, and supports the scars. The underwear should not be so tight as to be uncomfortable and you must consider being able to take it off to go to the bathroom regularly. Post-surgical underwear is available from some high-street shops, or you can purchase online from Macom.
