Implant Replacement +/- Capsulectomy
Implant replacement, also known as implant exchange, is performed for women who wish to update or replace their existing implants, or where revision is needed due to complications such as rupture, capsular contracture, or changes in breast appearance. A capsulectomy - removal of the scar capsule - may also be performed if necessary. This procedure restores or refreshes breast shape, improving comfort and confidence.
The surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic and typically lasts one to two hours, depending on the complexity. Existing implants are removed through previous incisions where possible, and new implants are carefully placed to achieve the desired size and shape. If scar tissue needs to be removed, a capsulectomy is performed at the same time. Patients may be discharged the same day or stay overnight for observation.
Recovery is similar to breast enlargement. Swelling, bruising, and a feeling of tightness are common in the first two weeks, but these improve steadily. A supportive bra should be worn to protect the new implants and aid healing. Light activities are usually possible after a week, while exercise and lifting should be avoided for four to six weeks.

You will be seen for follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing and to assess the results. Scars gradually fade, and the final breast shape settles over the following months. Implant replacement with or without capsulectomy provides lasting improvements, ensuring refreshed results and restored confidence.
